Does it hurt these batteries to be topped off or is it best to let them drain all the way down every time?
You should not drain your Lithium Ion batteries except in the normal course of use. If the battery is not going to be used for quite a long time, then leave it at around 40% charge and charge it just before you need it.
Lithium Ion batteries have a relatively short shelf-life and hence will lose capacity regardless how you care for it. After 2-3 years it'll probably be in need of replacement anyway, as you will notice that it no longer holds its charge as well as it used to. This is due to the age of the battery, not how it has been used or charged.
The best tip is not to overcharge, this shortens the length of the Lithium Ion's life due to overheating. Heat kills these batteries!
Keep topping off when you need to, as long as you don't leave it in the charger longer than required, it'll be fine.

Clarification of the battery Myths and misconceptions
There are a number of different stories circulating in the tool industry on how adequate to maintain and optimize tool batteries. A battery, however, is a major investment and should be protected to the maximum extent possible. The following information is intended to clarify some of these myths, to help better understand and get the best performance of their batteries.
- Batteries frozen: Do not put the batteries in the freezer! Too often the artisans damage batteries while trying to keep better maintained. Keep batteries in a dry and warm is the best method to maintain performance as possible. Freezing of the batteries will not help them, in fact, this can be very harmful. Carry batteries in the doors whenever possible is a Good way to ensure they are in a dry and mild.
- The higher the voltage - The best Battery: This is not always true. It is both the tool and the battery to its effect on tool performance. Specifically, the motor of the tool, transmission and other power components that produce a huge effect on how the battery and transfers energy in the working tools the parties. The quality of magnets in the motor of the tool, its mechanisms, and the plate that transfers energy to turn the head of the tool or blade are all contributing factors the efficiency of your tool. Essentially, everything from the same tool, bit or blade to its effects on how well the battery can transfer energy into your tool. - All chargers are the same: This is far from the truth. In General, professional chargers will shut off after the battery is fully charged. Less efficient chargers on the other hand, must maintain current through fully charged batteries. This continuous load cause a dangerous amount of heat buildup and reduces the overall life of the battery. In short, be sure you are using a Battery Charger high performance, and precautionary purposes, pull the battery from your charger once it has been fully restored.
- The reconstruction of the batteries: The batteries must be rebuilt or not remains a completely ambiguous. Having a rebuilt battery, which usually is impossible to know whether the party has used recycling services to renew your battery cells. When one considers that the costs roughly equal to reconstruct a battery as it does to buy a new one, may not be worth the risk. The best option is to buy a new battery factory certified and take your old to a service center for recycling.

My personal choice is a registered 7x15x50 Scope zoom application. The big difference between what you specifically is that you will not be able to use the 20x50 with a tripod. The 8x16x40 is a fairly narrow field of vision. It really depends on what you plan to use. Some other things to look for is what Type of lens coating that have. It has been a dream of all photographers to look for the balance in lighting whenever they photograph a subject and most of the time the quality of available light isn’t always perfect. I will share my experience in making use of flash wisely I am able to enhance my photo rather than by just using the available ambient light.
Before we get started let me clarify a few things with regards to my flash photography techniques that I will be sharing with you.
Let me define the term flash in this article - it is what some people call “Speedlight” which is the add on flash mounted on the camera hot - shoe Type and not either the studio strobe type of flash or the pop–up flash build in the camera..
The flash photography techniques I’m writing in this article are mostly applicable for “on the field” or “on the move” photography and not studio photography.
I’m a user of Nikon D-SLR and Speedlight, some example of my photography work shown here are not a standard recipe as each camera system may have a slide different reading hence require some slide adjustment.

I use flash most of the time but using flash does not mean you will spoil the ambient light thus making the photo looking unnatural. Why just use available light alone if your photograph turns out to be horrible. I will show you by understanding some essential techniques, mixing ambient light with flash you can make a better image.
By using the flash I will be able to highlight the shadow areas and avoid shadows under the subject’s eyebrows thus making it a better photo than it would have been without flash. But this does not mean that the image will turn up flat. Make sure you get your reading right.
Let’s try two examples:
1. A wedding couple on a beach and under a tent as the sun is going down:-
Shoot in manual mode because you need to be in control of your exposure metering for accuracy and consistency.
Meter for the ambient light, get your exposure right, turn off your flash and take a test shot. With the correct exposure you will get a perfect natural surroundings but the wedding couple will be little under exposed or with some shadows around their faces.
Now turn on your flash and adjust your flash to Ttl-BL mode which balance flash automatically with ambient light (as I’m using Nikon). Adjust your flash compensation. Start from 0 EV compensation and slowly go up until plus 1.7 EV. How much is enough? There is no one correct answer to that as it depends how much flash you need to use as a fill in flash. In this example you surely need a stronger fill-flash to match the sunlit background.
Flash was turn off. I took the reading of the ambient light and took a test shoot. Satisfied with the overall exposure and then on my flash light and took the photograph below with my flash light firring direct and dial up the my flash up to +1.7 EV. See the photographt below for comparison.
2. Portrait of a couple against a wall
Again always shoot on manual mode.
Meter correctly for the available light.
Adjust your flash to TTL-BL mode. As for out door, I usually start from -1.3 EV because Nikon Speedlights on TTL-BL mode balance flash automatically with ambient light and I will always shoot with flash firing straight on. The real idea is to use the flash as a fill-light only and to lift the shadows.
- Notice with a fill flash I manage to eliminate shadows under the couple eyebrows without overexposing the wall and the couples’ clothing’s.

The above two examples clearly tells you by just adding flash with the correct exposure set by reading the ambient light together with the right amount of flash value to be fired you will have a perfect and balance natural looking image. Who says by using flash it will look unnatural and spoil the ambient light?

For a Nikon D40, which must be my settings for snow?
I have a Nikon D40, and want to take action shots of the skaters on the snow. What settings do I need to get the best results? Please tell me also for sunny or cloudy, because I did not know what the conditions.
It is a difficult question to answer with a brief coverage solution. I guess if they are covered or sunny, was shot during the day. You must learn how to change the screen and read the exposure meter. Do lots of reading (manual). This will help you get the best photos possible. But for a quick response try this: For targets in dynamic motion attempting Area Auto Focus (AF) Here is a link discussing the use of shooting AF: http://www.sportsshooter.com/message_display.html?tid=25922 You probably want to choose "Shutter-Priority" when the shooting mode. Using shutter speeds of 1/100th of a second to get motion blur. The shutter speeds shorter than 1/250th of a second freeze action and make areas look less blurry. If you move the camera with the snowboard and using a shutter Speed above 1/100th of a second, you may receive the snowboarder to appear with care and a history of being moved. When shooting in the air lower chamber, the greater the air look ... and, ideally, the camera is on the up, facing down the hill (where the camera is pointing up the hill to see a jump, there will be no visual reference for size. For a beautiful sunny day - first attempt at ISO100. More ISO, less noise crisp, digital images and have to be. If ISO100 makes the shutter too slow or two dark images, set to 200 or 400. By passing the 400, the noise will increase dramatically. There is unlikely you will have to go higher than during the day. 800 and 1600 should be reserved for the shots in the dark or indoors only when otherwise it would not get the shot ... or if you want a grainy shot noise (some people as noisy black and white photos). These ideas should work on most cases, but seriously ... it is trial and error with the exposure settings ... and nobody can say with precision parameters without being there and the combination of light. If you know how your shots meters all stages ranging from -1 to 0 to +1 EV ... and When you find the most attractive place, use it. If you are RAW, you can adjust the brightness and contrast a little, no image degradation ... when you go home and put them on your computer. This just gives a little margin, if not much. Good luck
