What is the difference between poly and high index lenses?
My eye doctor recommended high index lenses, but when I went to buy frames, today, one of the employees said poly lenses were basically the same but cheaper.
Would it be safe to go ahead and get the poly lenses? Would there be any risks or side effects?
I think your Dr. suggested high index just as a General term, to make sure you get thinner than normal lenses.
If your prescription is - 5.00 or less, then the polycarb will be thin and do a Good job. If you are Over that though, then the 1.60 high index will give better optics than the polycarb.
Polycarb in the higher powers tend to cause chromatic abberation around the edges, which will cause you to often see a rainbow effect at the outer edges of your lenses.
So, it depends on the power of your lenses as to which would be the best choice.
