how are you suppose to wash a Crocheted baby blanket?
It doesn't matter whether it is a baby blanket, afghan or sweater or whatever. Crochet work done in synthetic yarns are completely machine washable and dryable. Most of today's yarns are "self blocking" meaning you do not have to block them to shape to dry.
I toss all crochet work in the washer on Delicate or Handwash Cycles with regular laundry detergent, short cycle, and warm water wash, warm or cool rinse, Add the liquid fabric softener, then spin and remove to the dryer and run on wrinkle free setting for about 30 minutes with fabric softener sheet. (Yes, I use both)
If the blanket is made of wool, fill kitchen sink with comfortable water, add some hair shampoo and swish around. Soak blanket or other crocheted item 15 to 30 minutes. Squeeze gently to get the soil out, Squeeze the water out, if necessary repeat this step. NEVER run water directly on wool!! Run sink full of rinse water, soak 5 minutes, and repeat til all soap is removed. Final rinse use hair conditioner. (If it is Good for your hair it won't harm the wool).
Blocking wool items: Before getting an item wet or wearing it, draw around it on a sheet of paper. Now with wet garment rolled in heavy towel, lay plastic on floor or bed, lay several other bath towels on the plastic, lay the pattern on the towels and mark the area with T-pins. Lay the garment on the area and tug gently til you can stick the T-pins in and it stays in that shape. Allow to dry completely before removing.
